چکیده

T.N.Ravi, Dr. D.I. George Amalarethinam, & Dr. R. Balasubramanian Abstract Effective scheduling strategies to improve response times, throughput and utilization are important considerations in large scale computing environments. The nearly Space Sharing strategies resulted in low system utilization and large job waiting times. Gang scheduling combines both space sharing and time sharing. This paper analyses the Gang Scheduling technique that can be used beyond simple space sharing to greatly improve the performance of large parallel systems. The main contribution of this paper is an evaluation of Minimum Schedule Length and Speed up’s of Gang Scheduling technique, for five different applications.

Performance Analysis and Prediction of Processor Scheduling Strategies in Multiprogrammed Shared-Memory Multiprocessors

Small-scale shared-memory multiprocessors are commonly used in a workgroup environment where multiple applications, both parallel and sequential, are executed concurrently while sharing the processors and other system resources. To utilize the processors eeciently, an eeective scheduling strategy is required. In this paper, we use performance data obtained from an SGI multiprocessor to evaluate...

Stochastic Analysis of Gang Scheduling in Parallel and Distributed Systems

Gang scheduling is an approach for resource allocation in parallel and distributed systems that combines time-sharing with space-sharing to ensure a short response time for interactive tasks and high overall system throughput. In this paper, we present queueing theoretic models for a particular gang scheduling system under a workload representative of large-scale engineering and scientiic compu...

Implementation of Gang-Scheduling on Workstation Cluster

The goal of this paper is to determine how e ciently we can implement an adequate parallel programming environment on a workstation cluster without modifying the existing operating system. We have implemented a runtime environment for parallel programs and gang-scheduling on a workstation cluster. In this paper, we report the techniques used to implement gang-scheduling on a workstation cluster...

A new Shuffled Genetic-based Task Scheduling Algorithm in Heterogeneous Distributed Systems

Distributed systems such as Grid- and Cloud Computing provision web services to their users in all of the world. One of the most important concerns which service providers encounter is to handle total cost of ownership (TCO). The large part of TCO is related to power consumption due to inefficient resource management. Task scheduling module as a key component can has drastic impact on both user...
